What is categorized as an extrinsic enabler?

An extrinsic enabler refers to components outside of the individual that facilitate or enhance functioning and participation. In this context, a type of assistive technology that enables function is classified as an extrinsic enabler because it provides external support to individuals, allowing them to perform tasks that may otherwise be challenging due to their disabilities or limitations. Assistive technologies include devices, software, and equipment designed to assist with daily activities, mobility, communication, and various other functions, thereby promoting independence and improving quality of life.

On the other hand, personal mindsets, intrinsic capabilities, and community networks are intrinsic or personal factors that may influence a person's ability to cope or function but do not serve as direct external aids or tools in the same way that assistive technologies do. While these factors can certainly support an individual's journey, they do not encompass the concept of extrinsic enablers which are tangible aids designed specifically to assist with tasks and functions.
